Basilica of Saint John nearby Ephesus

Today Saint John’s Basilica stands 3.5 kilometers away from Ephesus Ancient City. Building which is visible right now is from the sixth century A.D. and as we know it was built in the times of Byzantine Emperor Justinian. Unfortunately the original building where Saint John was buried was replaced with this one but the tomb of John is still present over here.
Saint John had many titles such as ”Apostle, Evangelist, Fisherman and Evangelist”. Also, he is the known author of the Fourth Gospel and author of Revelation.

The Basilica is an excellent example of stone brick building of it’s time. The Building has a cross formed architecture and used to have six domes covering it. Also, there are huge walls around the church build for protection against attack targeting it and today they give a fortress like look to the building.
